Regular rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings at:
North High School, 2960 North Speer Blvd. in Denver.Drive to the rear of the school along 32nd Avenue.
Turn south on Eliot St., one block east of Federal. Turn left into the parking lot (warning: SPEED BUMPS), turn right at the playing field fence, follow the road to the gym entrance and park there. Walk through the east side of the gym and through the double set of doors to the tiled hallway. The music rooms are on the left (south) side of the hall.
Intermediate Band 6:40 - 7:10 pm
This group uses Standard of Excellence Book 3. If you already play an instrument, but need some time to "get your chops back", this is the group for you. While in this group you are also eligible to participate in the Jazz-Blues Band. Upon completion of SOE Book 3, you are ready to begin participation in Concert Band. The conductor is Richard Mongrain.
Jazz-Blues Band 6:00 - 7:15 pm
Allows continuing learners to improve their playing and music-reading skills. The Jazz-Blues Band is an ensemble that focuses on jazz rhythms, improv skills and learning basic jazz-related pieces and styles including blues, big-band, Latin jazz, and reggae. Opportunities provided for musicians to "play up" with the Concert Band (see below). Mike Lucas conducts the Jazz-Blues Band.
Concert Band 7:15 - 8:30 pm
The principal ensemble of the MHCB, always improving musical skills while performing high-quality music under professional musician and conductor Mike Lucas.
Jazz Combo 7:15 - 8:30 pm
Primarily plays jazz standards with an emphasis on developing small group improvisational skills. Richard Mongrain conducts this band.
