Having fun

lindasmoke   |   February 21, 2008 - 11:36am

Back in the day, when I started playing clarinet, my teachers only taught concert band music. And I hadn't played the clarinet for 23 years. A few years ago, when I had the chance to start playing an alto sax with the Jazz Band, it fulfilled a desire I'd had since high school. The Concert and Jazz bands are very supportive groups. I'm learning a lot and really having fun playing in a band again!

Intermediate Band a great learning experience

When my son Bradley started playing flute with his band at school, I got interested in learning. So I started lessons, and as a fairly new flute student who started at age 53, there was no outlet for me to gain experience with a band. Most bands are either for kids of various levels, or for adults who are already very accomplished on their instrument, and for which they have to audition. Mile High Community band is unique in that both adults and kids of varying ability can join. When Bradley went into a middle school that doesn't have a band, this became a perfect venue for both of us.

An Enriching Experience!

“When my daughter joined the band at her school, I got the itch to play again. It’d been 17 years since I picked up my flute! I joined the Intermediate Band to get started again and sat in with the Concert Band. I was so surprised at how quickly the music came back to me, and I soon became a regular member of the Concert Band. My daughter now also plays in the Intermediate Band to supplement her music program at school. A very enriching experience for both of us!” --Deborah Ray
